What happens

Shirley dies before reaching her mother's bedside. She gets a second chance: return as six different animals, each one positioned near the woman who raised her. The cost is time. Her mother is running out of it, weakened by illness and grief, and Shirley can only watch from behind fur and feathers as the clock ticks down.
